Top 10 Most Anticipated Movies of 2018

2017 is nearing it’s end and it’s been a crazy year for movies with Beauty and the Beast holding the 1st place being the top grossing movie world wide. With a total gross of $504,014,165, Beauty and the Beast proves that nostalgia is good business.

One of the most surprising movies this year however is Wonder Woman. With DC’s track record of producing critically unimpressive movies, Wonder Woman not only was loved by fans but also by critics, proving that the DC movie universe can produce good comic book movies. Another impressive note is that Wonder Woman have a worldwide gross of $412,563,408 putting the movie behind Beauty in the Beast.

With that said 2018 have a promising year for movies and here’s my top 10 Most Anticipated Movies of 2018.

10. Spider-Man: Into the Spider Verse

Liev Schreiber
Mahershala Ali as Aaron Davis
Shameik Moore as Miles Morales

With a surprising entry from Sony, they released a trailer for Spider-Man: Into the Spider Verse. This time starring the other Spider Man, Miles Morales.

I’m very much looking forward to this movie as this is the first time that we see the Miles Morales Spider-Man in the big screen. Sony animation is known for some of the worst animated movies this year (The Emojo movie, Smurfs: The Lost Village) however with a collaboration with Marvel, Spider-Man: Into the Spider Verse seems like a promising project and it’s something to be excited for.

9. Mortal Engines

Hera Hilmar
Robert Sheehan
Hugo Weaving

Based on a popular book, Mortal Engines is being produced by Peter Jackson. Peter Jackson of course not a stranger in adapting epic novels into movies. Mortal Engines could be the next epic book to movie next to the Lord of the Rings and the Harry Potter series.

Filmed entirely in New Zealand, Mortal Engines is definitely a movie to look forward to in 2018.

8. Deadpool 2

Ryan Reynolds
Josh Brolin
Morena Baccarin

With the huge success of the first one, there was never any doubt about a sequel. One thing that intrigues me on this sequel is the casting of Josh Brolin as Cable. He’s already Thanos in the upcoming Avengers movie and with Disney acquiring Fox assets I’m looking forward to the jokes that Deadpool brings for the sequel.

7. Sicario 2: Soldado

Benicio Del Toro
Isabela Moner
Josh Brolin

Another sequel that also features Josh Brolin, is Sicario 2. I was never a fan of the first movie, however the trailer for Sicario 2 looks very impressive and with Taylor Sheridan writing once again. Sicario 2 has the potential to be a great sequel.

6. Venom

Tom Hardy
Michelle Williams
Woody Harrelson

Venom is a project I personally have been skeptical about since it’s a Sony production. However this is looking to have a lot of promise in it. With reports that the story will involve a mixture of Lethal Protector and Planet of the Symbiotes this has the potential to be a good anti hero movie. Not to mention Tom Hardy’s enthusiasm with this movie helps it a lot.

5. Isle of Dogs

Scarlett Johansson
Bryan Cranston
Tilda Swinton

Isle of Dogs, is an upcoming stop-motion animated film by Wes Anderson. I’ve always liked Fantastic Mr Fox and with this being Wes Anderson’s second stop-motion animated film, this is one movie I am looking forward to.

Isle of Dogs features an all star cast that mostly featured in previous Wes Anderson films.

4. Annihilation

Oscar Isaac
Natalie Portman
Jennifer Jason Leigh

A movie which I thought would come out this year, Annihilation is based on the books by Jeff Vandermeer where four women venture into a place called Area X.

Ever since Ex Machina, I have been looking forward to Alex Garland’s latest project and with the trailers that came out I am even more excited for Annihilation.

3. Black Panther

Chadwick Boseman
Michael B. Jordan
Andy Serkis

One of the three marvel movies that will come out in 2018, Black Panther is looking to be one of the most unique Marvel movies to have ever been produced.

With an all star cast featuring an almost all black cast, Black Panther is looking to be a very strong game changer in the superhero genre and I am very much looking forward to it.

2. Ready Player One

Tye Sheridan
Olivia Cooke
Ben Mendelsohn

Ready Player One was definitely one of the best books I’ve ever read so when reports were saying Steven Spielberg is adapting the book into a movie, I could not be more excited. Granted I am not a fan of the 80s however I am a fan of video games and movies and to see this movie come to fruition, I am incredibly looking forward to it.

Honorable Mentions

The Incredibles 2

Pacific Rim: Uprising

Ant-Man and the Wasp

The New Mutants

1. Avengers: Infinity War

Josh Brolin
Chris Evans
Robert Downey Jr.

This is easily the most anticipated movie of 2018, with the history behind it and with a villain that’s been built up for 10 years not to mention a collection of all the Marvel characters in one movie makes this movie an event that you would not want to miss.

So there you go my top 10 most anticipated movies of 2018, note that this list is mostly subjective and not an official list of any sort, this is only my opinion so which movie are you most looking forward to?

Top 10 Most Anticipated Films of 2017

With 2016 nearing it’s end, one could say that this year has been phenomenal with movies. Disney in particular has had a huge success with it’s properties. From the release of Finding Dora, Zootopia, The Jungle Book and Moana not to mention the huge success of the the Marvel movies and recently Star Wars Rogue One. It’s safe to assume that Disney dominated this year’s box office.

2017 in the other hand is looking promising with it’s releases. With possible box office draws like Guardians of The Galaxy Vol 2, Kong: Skull Island not to mention intriguing releases such as the remake for Stephen King’s It, a Blade Runner sequel as well as the movie adaptation of The Dark Tower. Nonetheless 2017 should be a great year for cinema and cinema goers alike.

But without further ado, here is my top 10 list for movies I personally can’t wait to watch.

10. Thor: Ragnarok

thor-3Though a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Thor franchise hasn’t quite had the success of Iron Man and Captain America. However with the movie’s third installment, interest are peaked as this time he’s being joined by not one but two major MCU characters in the form of Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk and Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr Strange.

However what really intrigued me about this movie is it’s director Taika Waititi. Taika is a film director from New Zealand and being from New Zealand myself I’m rooting for this movie to be exceptional. With a very satirical form of film making it will be interesting to see what he does with the property.

Chris Hemsworth (Thor)
Cate Blanchett (Carol)
Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange)

Directed By: Taika Waititi (Hunt for the Wilderpeople)
Release Date: 3 November 2017

9. It

itEveryone is familiar with the 1990s mini-series with the same title as well as the popular book. Well It is now being remade into a full-length movie and I for one am pretty excited for It. Having seen the mini-series I’m intrigued on how It will transition to a full-length film.

The mini-series of course was in two parts and it fleshed out the characters and really gave that epic feel to it. This movie will be directed by Andres Muschietti who did Mama which is another horror movie nonetheless we can only hope this movie will be something worth remembering in the future.

Bill Skarsgard (Allegiant)
Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things)
Jaeden Lieberher (Midnight Special)

Directed By: Andrés Muschietti (Mama)
Release Date: 8 September 2017

8. Justice League

jl Despite the disappointing turn out of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, what that movie did is sort of cement the foundations of the DC Cinematic Universe. Zack Snyder is directing again and a part of me is hoping that he has learned his lesson and actually give this a decent story and be a competent movie overall.

I have a feeling it won’t be as strong as the first avenger movie but I am rooting for it not to be a complete disaster. I am looking forward to this movie just for curiosity’s sake but if anything can redeem the the current state of the DC Cinematic Universe it would be Justice League.

Ben Affleck (Live By Night)
Ezra Miller (Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them)
Gal Gadot (Batman V Superman)

Directed By: Zack Snyder (Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice)
Release Date: 17 November 2017

7. Dunkirk

dunkirkChristoper Nolan’s next film following Interstellar is Dunkirk. Dunkirk is a WW2 movie and despite moving from the usual Science Fiction that Christopher Nolan usually does. It’ll be interesting to see what he does in a big budget war movie.

As usual expectations will be high coming in to this movie and I have no doubts that Dunkirk will give it’s audience a great cinematic experience.

Tom Hardy (The Revenant)
Cillian Murphy (Anthropoid)
Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies)

Directed By: Christopher Nolan (Interstellar)
Release Date: 21 July 2017

6. Annihilation

annihilationComing from his amazing directorial debut Alex Garland’s new project is Annihilation. Based on the first book of The Southern Reach Trilogy Annihilation tells the story of four women who venture into a place where the laws of nature don’t apply. I’ve read the book this film is being based off on and I wasn’t too thrilled about it. However with Alex Garland adapting the screenplay I can’t wait to see what he does with this adaptation.

Alex Garland did an incredible job with Ex Machina, which I think was the best movie of 2015 and to see him tackle another Sci-Fi project is exciting. I’m looking forward to this movie and I am sure it will be just as good if not better than Ex Machina.

Natalie Portman (Jackie)
Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hateful Eight)
Oscar Isaacs (Star Wars: The Force Awakens)

Directed By: Alex Garland (Ex Machina)
Release Date: 2017

5. Spider-Man: Homecoming

spidermanThe third comicbook movie on this list is of course Spider-Man. Ever since we’ve learned that Spider-Man will be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe a whole new wave of excitement swept over fans all over the world. We’ve already seen him in Captain America: Civil War and everyone loved him.

Now that we know he’s going to have his own solo franchise under the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe). This gives the property a much needed boost as now we know he can interact with the other heroes within the MCU. I personally can’t wait to see this movie and once again I’m sure it will be a great comicbook movie.

Tom Holland (Captain America: Civil War)
Michael Keaton (Birdman)
Robert Downey Jr (Captain America: Civil War)

Directed By: Jon Watts (Cop Car)
Release Date: 7 July 2017

4. Star Wars: Episode VIII

starwars-ep-8With the revitalized success that the Star Wars is getting we can only assume this well oiled machine will keep going. Following The Force Awakens is Episode VIII and it continues the story of Rey (Daisy Ridley) and the new character from episode VII.

I can only hope this won’t make the same mistake as The Force Awakens did which is being a carbon copy of A New Hope. But rather give the audience something new and exciting.

Daisy Ridley (Star Wars: The Force Awakens)
Adam Driver (Silence)
John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens)

Directed By: Rian Johnson (Looper)
Release Date: 15 December 2017

3. The Dark Tower

the-dark-towerNumber 3 is a book adaptation and it is one a lot of people have been waiting for. This is of course the adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower. A lot of people have been wanting to see Roland Deschain’s story in the big screen and I’m personally very much excited about this project.

Idris Elba will be playing the main character and Matthew McConaughey will be playing the Man in Black and with those two attached to this project it gives that star power that can push this as a huge blockbuster movie.

Idris Elba (Star Trek: Beyond)
Matthew McConaughey (Gold)
Katheryn Winnick (Vikings)

Directed By: Nikolaj Arcel
Release Date: 28 July 2017

2. Beauty and the Beast

beauty-and-the-beast-posterGrowing up in the 90s I was a huge fan of the Disney Renaissance. With Disney having a successful track record of transforming it’s animated properties into live action. I can assume that Disney will do this property right and give it a great live action adaptation.

With an all star cast and two strong leads in the form of Emma Watson and Luke Evans. I can guarantee Beauty and the Beast will be a terrific movie, one that fans of the original can enjoy.

Emma Watson (Perks of Being a Wallflower)
Luke Evans (The Girl on the Train)
Dan Stevens (Night at Museum 3)

Directed By: Bill Condon(Mr. Holmes)
Release Date: 17 March 2017

1. Logan

loganFinally my most anticipated film is Logan. With Fox taking the same approach they did with Deadpool, making this movie Rated-R. There’s no better way to send off Hugh Jackman with his final role as Wolverine with Logan. With 16 Years in his belt as Wolverine, Hugh Jackman has expressed his interest to move away from the property.

Though as disheartening as it is to hear this, it is completely understandable and with his final role as Wolverine, no doubt Logan will be an emotional and satisfying send off. I personally can’t wait to see this movie and I’m sure it will be all sorts of amazing.

Hugh Jackman (Eddie the Eagle)
Patrick Stewart (Green Room)
Stephen Merchant (Hello Ladies)

Directed By: James Mangold (The Wolverine)
Release Date: 3 March 2017

So there you go my top 10 most anticipated movies of 2016. Again this is just movies that I’m looking forward to. There are a lot of movies to look forward to in 2017. From Guardians of The Galaxy Vol 2 to the next Fast and Furious movie as well as another Transformers movie and Kong: Skull Island. 2017 will be another great year for movies. These 10 are the one I’m looking forward to the most but feel free to comment what are yours. Merry Christmas and have a nice day.

10 Most Anticipated Films of 2016

2016 will be an exciting time for movie goers as this time we have 6-7 comic book movies coming out, also a sequel to the oscar winning animated movie, Finding Nemo, Finding Dory. A movie set in the same universe as the Harry Potter series, Fantastic Beasts and Where to find them and we have 2 high budget video game movies with, Assassin’s Creed and Warcraft. Overall 2016 will be a great year for movies but for now let’s countdown my 10 most anticipated movies of 2016.

Note: This is only my personal opinion and it is not an official list of anything.

10. The Girl on The Train

Starting my list is one of the most popular novels of 2015, the movie adaptation of The Girl on The Train by Paula Hawkins. I’ve read this book and to be honest I didn’t like it very much. You can read my review here. Though I had complaints about the book, I felt that the story would be better in live-action.

Emily Blunt will be playing the main lead, and she has been impressive, lately she was great in Sicario and I’m hoping she’ll be great in the upcoming Huntsman movie sequel. However I am looking forward to her role as Rachel in this film. This will be directed by Tate Taylor, who is not new with adapting books into film as he also helmed the movie, The Help, which garnered a few Oscar Nominations and won Viola Davis an Oscar for supporting role. Overall, The Girl on The Train should be a suspenseful experience in the cinemas and I for one am looking forward to it.

Emily Blunt (Sicario)
Rebecca Ferguson (Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation)
Luke Evans (The Hobbit)
Edgar Ramirez (Point Break (2015))

Directed By: Tate Taylor

9. Suicide Squad

Number 9 is a comic book movie, it’s Suicide Squad. Frankly speaking I don’t know much about Suicide Squad, I’ve seen adaptations of the said group in the CW Tv show Arrow, but beyond that I don’t know much about them. What peaked my interest however, is the ensemble cast. Will Smith will be playing the main protagonist as Deadshot alongside Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jared Leto as The Joker and also an appearance by Batman played by Ben Affleck as well as many others.

This will be directed by David Ayer, who also did Fury and seeing as this is his first comic-book movie, I’m curious to see what his take on the property. If you’re familiar with his films, they are mostly gritty and violent and it makes me wonder if he’s going to be doing the same with Suicide Squad.

Will Smith (Focus)
Margot Robbie (Focus)
Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club)
Viola Davis (Ender’s Game)

Directed by: David Ayer
Release Date: 5 August 2016 (Worldwide)

8. The Jungle Book

Number 8 is the live action adaptation of The Jungle Book. I was really impressed when I saw this film’s trailer. It looked exciting, the CG looked impressive and it simply looked like it’ll be an amazing movie to see in the big screen. I liked the animated Jungle Book movies by Disney and I have high hopes for this film.

This will be directed by Jon Favreau who did, Iron Man and Chef, who I’m sure will do an amazing job bringing these characters to life. I personally can’t wait to see this film and I guarantee this will be a great cinematic experience.

Bill Murray (A Very Murray Christmas)
Ben Kingsley (The Walk)
Idris Elba (Beasts of No Nation)
Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years a Slave)

Directed by: Jon Favreau

7. Magnificent Seven

First off, no it’s not number 7 because of the title, that’s purely coincidence. Secondly what a cast this movie will have. I am sold with just Antoine Fuqua, Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke. But you add in names like Vincent D’Onofrio and Chris Pratt. Then I’m pumped.

A remake of the 1960s Western Classic of the same title, which is a remake of the 1954 Japanese Film Seven Samurai. The Magnificent Seven is about Seven Gunslingers who protect a small town from invading bandits. I’m not a fan of western but I am really excited to see this film, and just looking at the cast. I can tell this is going to be great. I just hope it won’t follow the previous films beat by beat but have some original content but either way, it’s still one of my most anticipated films of the year.

Denzel Washington (The Equalizer)
Ethan Hawke (Boyhood)
Vincent D’Onofrio (Netflix’s Daredevil)
Chris Pratt (Jurassic World)

Directed by: Antoine Fuqua
Release Date: 23 September 2016 (UK/US)

6. Inferno

Say what you will about Dan Brown books turned movies, but the truth is I enjoy watching Tom Hanks play the charismatic Codebuster, which is Robert Langdon. It’s been 7 years since he portrayed the character on the big screen and with Ron Howard directing once more I’m sure fans of the books and films, if they even exists, won’t be disappointed.

I have read the book and I’m excited to watch this on screen. I’m hoping it to be as suspenseful if not even more suspenseful than the book and maybe even bring in some unexpected twists and turns.

Tom Hanks (Bridge of Spies)
Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything)
Omar Sy (Jurassic World)
Irrfan Khan (Jurassic World)

Directed by: Ron Howard
Release Date: 14 October 2016 (Worldwide)

5. Warcraft

Possibly the most baffling entry on this list, especially at number 5. But please hear me out, I have played the first Warcraft game on PC, also played the sequel repeatedly and I enjoyed the heck out of the story in Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos as well as the expansion game, The Frozen Throne. So I hope you can understand why this is number 5.

As a gamer myself I’m a rooting that this will be the first video game movie which is widely successful. I’m a big fan of fantasy and to see a Warcraft movie done well on the big screen, will give a great satisfaction. Fingers crossed this doesn’t bomb.

Travis Fimmel (Vikings)
Paula Patton (Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol)
Robert Kazinsky (Pacific Rim)
Toby Kebbell (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes)

4. Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice

Well this was bound to pop up somehow right?, entering at number 4 is Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. I personally haven’t seen live action Batman and a live action Superman in a movie together but thank God I’m about to witness one.

Though the whole film looks like a set up for The Justice League, just the on screen presence of the two comic book icons should be strong enough to drive this movie. Zack Snyder who directed, Man of Steel, is also directing Batman V Superman so this should be a fun cinematic experience with a lot of jaw dropping special effects.

Henry Cavill (Man from U.N.C.L.E)
Ben Affleck (Gone Girl)
Gal Gadot (Fast and Furious movies)
Jessie Eisenberg (American Ultra)

Directed By: Zack Snyder
Release Date: 25 March 2016 (Worldwide)

3. Doctor Strange

Coming in at number 3 is the Sorcerer Supreme himself, Doctor Strange. The second movie in Marvel’s Phase 3. I for one can’t wait for this movie, I have been wishing for a live-action adaptation of Doctor Strange and to see photos of Benedict Cumberbatch in costume. I think he looks amazing.

Being directed by Scott Derrickson, who’s filmography mostly consist of horror movies. It should be interesting to see how he adapts his style of film making on Doctor Strange.

Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game)
Tilda Swinton (Trainwreck)
Chiwetel Ejiofor (The Martian)
Mads Mikkelsen(Hannibal)

Directed By: Scott Derrickson

2. Deadpool

The comic-book movie hype train continues as Deadpool enters at number 2. Finally and I mean finally we’re going to have a Rated-R  comic book movie which is a part of Marvel comics and even better this is probably the best way to portray this character on screen. I’ve read several Deadpool books and man they’re always fun to read. To finally see him in the big screen is definitely a dream come true to some people.

Ryan Reynolds is perfect as Deadpool, he has shown that he’s got the charisma and the mouth to make capture this character. Seriously hoping Fox doesn’t screw this up like they did with Fantastic Four but looking at the trailer you can tell, they already did a great job with the movie.

Ryan Reynolds (Self/less)
Ed Skrein (Transporter Refueled)
Morena Baccarin (Gotham)
TJ Miller (Silicon Valley)

1. Captain America: Civil War

If you didn’t predict this from a mile away, then you obviously haven’t been paying attention. Of course this was going to be my number 1 most anticipated movie of 2016. I am a huge fan of the event of the comics. 2 superheroes, neither are bad but different ideologies cause them to clash to each other causing all sorts of chaos on their wake.

I for one can’t believe they’re making this film, I honestly couldn’t. Even after the second Avengers I had doubts but seeing the trailer, my excitement for the movie cannot be contained. Not only did Marvel have the guts to makethis movie but they also made agreements with Sony to bring Spider Man into this film. Which shows that despite the lack of superheroes compared to the comics, they want to make this right. They want to start Phase 3 with a bang and Captain America Civil War is the perfect movie to start phase 3.

This movie feels like an Avenger movie with most recurring characters appearing on the film. They even went all the way back to The Incredible Hulk movie to bring William Hurt to reprise his role as General Ross. And to put the icing on the cake, The Russo brothers are directing this, who did Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Which is one of the best Marvel Movie out there. I seriously can’t wait for this film, I’m sure it’ll be all sorts of amazing.

Chris Evans (Avengers: Age of Ultron)
Robert Downey Jr. (Avengers: Age of Ultron)
Chadwick Boseman (Get on Up)
Anthony Mackie (The Night Before)
Sebastian Stan (The Martian)

Directed By: Joe and Anthony Russo

So there you go my top 10 most anticipated movies of 2016. Again this is just movies that I’m looking forward to. There are a lot of movies to look forward to in 2016, Finding Dory, X-Men Apocalypse, Zootopia, Hail, Ceasar!, Star Wars: Roue One, Moana, Gambit, Now You See Me 2, Bourne Film etc. But these 10 are the one I’m looking forward to the most. Feel free to comment what are yours on the comment section below. Have a Nice Day.
